Each year, Imagine a Day Without Water invites us to see how crucial our need for water really is by visualizing life without it, just for one day. Very quickly, we learn how indispensable water is in our everyday lives, and how our health, environment, and economy depend on reliable access to clean water.

Where Does Sanford’s Water Come From?

The Sanford Water District doesn’t make water—it comes from nature. Rain and snow seep into the ground and collect in aquifers left behind by glaciers more than 12,000 years ago. These underground sand and gravel deposits naturally filter and store the clean, abundant water we all enjoy.

What we do is deliver that water safely to your home, business, and fire hydrants—24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our hardworking team treats, tests, and monitors the system every single day (including holidays!) to keep the water safe and reliable.
